The greatest rewards of my professional life has been in helping injured men, women and children recover when they have been physically and emotionally injured by the negligence of others. I am here to serve my clients. Most of the time, I am fighting for their rights against insurance companies and huge corporations. When we win, justice is done.
I am now able to devote all of my professional time to representing people who have been hurt or wronged. This has not always been the case. For the first 17 years of my law practice, I handled a great variety of kinds of cases, including real estate, municipal law, corporations, agriculture law, divorce, criminal defense, bankruptcy and all kinds of civil and criminal practice. This broad background has helped me in my personal injury practice. However, my first love has always been representing people who have been hurt.
For the last ten years I have done that. As an attorney at Schroer Rice, Wisler & Morton, P.A., a small plaintiff’s firm in Topeka, Kansas, I built a practice representing people hurt in automobile accidents or on the job (workers compensation.) I have always represented people who have been wrongfully fired from their jobs, usually because of racial or sexual discrimination or harassment.
Within the last ten years, I began representing people who were injured by the negligence of doctors (medical malpractice) or by defective products (products liability). I have also been representing people who have been injured by defective prescription and over the counter drugs. Most recently, I have been handling cases of persons and property damaged by toxic mold. I have been blessed with considerable success in all of these areas. I eventually became President and lead trial attorney at Schroer Rice, Wisler & Morton, P.A.
I have been trying and settling personal injury cases for over 27 years. In October, 2002, I formed my own firm in Lawrence, Kansas, where I live and where my practice has grown steadily over the last ten years. From my office in Lawrence, I now devote all of my efforts to representing injured and wronged people throughout the State of Kansas. If you have been injured, I would be glad to talk to you about your case. There is no charge for an initial consultation.
I have presented seminars to Workers Compensation lawyers on "How to Try the Complex Workers Compensation Case" and to the Annual Meeting of the Kansas Bar Association on "Storm Water Damage Litigation". I have just been invited to make a presentation on Toxic Mold Litigation in Kansas in March, 2003.
When you hire a personal injury lawyer, ask the attorney how many cases he or she has tried. I have tried hundreds of cases, both criminal and civil. I have negotiated and settled hundreds more. The key to a good and just settlement is to be prepared to take the case to trial. I am preparing for trial from the first time we discuss your case.
Jim is married to Shelah Wisler, who also works in the firm. They have 8 children and 6 grandchildren. In his spare time, Jim enjoys book collecting, antiques, church activities, travel and enjoying his kids and grandkids.
